17/10/2017 - Approaching the end of the season

Updated: Apr 20, 2018

So it's been quite a while since I posted. My sincere apologies.

The end of the season has been relatively disappointing this year. The Japanese morning glories started flowering much later than expected. And just when they were starting to take off we had a long bout of very bad weather. The flowers never developed to their full potential. They stayed small and hardly opened properly due to the cold temperatures.

Almost no flowers got pollinated and not a single seed has ripened so far. Being busy and very late nights (read: mornings) also prevented me from taking any good pictures.

So I decided to spend my time and energy on other important things the last month and a half or so. Which explains my absence from the blog.

The last few days we've been lucky and have had some unusually warm temperatures for the time of year. The morning glories (or what's left of them) seemed to enjoy it and quickly pumped out a couple more flowers before the end of the season.

One observation I made is that the Grey Morning Mist variety seemed to do pretty well despite the low temperatures. The Blue Kikyo didn't to too bad either compared to the others. Something to remember for the future.
