Sowed another round of Ipomoea nil yesterday evening. Today I was glad to see that the vast majority had already germinated after less than 24 hours. As I said in my previous post, Jerry has some quality seeds!

Most of these are meant for experimenting with Kirikomizukuri style growing. A classic Japanese method where the plants are grown without supports and are pinched back to produce a small and compact plant. They will also receive a 16 hour dark period shortly after germination to induce early flowering.

If these experiments turn out to be successful this means I would be able to grow Japanese morning glories all year round. It might also be a great way of growing small batches of seeds and crosses.

The other plants moved into the greenhouse last week. They had a couple of rainy days and cold nights before and are now enjoying the improvement. The weather has been pretty good so far and a lot of the plants have been outside for 2-4 weeks already. A really early start to the season. The nights could be a little cold but most didn't seem too bothered. Lets hope the weather holds up through May.
The seed collection has been growing steadily the last few weeks as well. Lots of new varieties coming in. I've added a list of all varieties we have collected so far at Ruvan Asagao. And to think this hobby started with one seed of Heavenly Blue back in the day.
